2.2 For supporting student organizations
The Independent Student wants:
– Subsidies available to support student organizations;
– Improvement in the housing of student organizations;
– Opportunities for student organizations to promote themselves;
Student organizations, student associations as well as study associations form the backbone of the Groninger student society. Student organizations provide the opportunity for students to meet new people, acquire new skills and work on their personal development. The Independent Student wants the university to support these organizations and treat them as the vital part of the academic community they are.
The so-called “Big-5” of the student organizations (ACLO, KEI, ESN, Usva and CUOS) have taken over key roles of the university: ACLO provides sports activities to almost 19.000 students each year; Usva organizes cultural courses for almost 2000 students and organizes theatre shows for 7000 visitors each year. ESN organizes a bi-yearly Introduction Week and 150 other activities for all new international students in Groningen, helping more than 3000 newly arrived students to get to know our city. KEI organizes a yearly Introduction Week for more than 6000 students in Groningen.
Next to these organizations, Groningen has over 200 more valuable organizations who organize all sorts of events. Reaching from career exchanges to cultural festivals, and from social gatherings to sports events.
As the vital parts of the academic community they are, The Independent Student wants the University to support all organizations to help them to improve and increase their valuable activities even more.
