8.2 For an asbestos-free university
The Independent Student wants:
– All university buildings to be asbestos-free by 2025;
Asbestos is a material which has been used for hundreds of years to insulate buildings and to fireproof objects. The use of asbestos was banned in the 1970’s, when its use was linked to several severe diseases.
Asbestos is still present in older buildings from the university, and forms a potential health hazard for students and staff. The Independent Student wants all asbestos removed from university buildings.
