1.4 For a university without mandatory classes
The Independent Student will:
– Oppose mandatory classes at the University;
– Encourage bonus points for active participation and attendance;
Students are fully capable of deciding themselves which classes they wish to attend, and which classes they wish to skip in favour of other classes. De Vrije Students wants to get rid of all mandatory classes.
Mandatory classes have a negative impact on the quality of education, since students will show up due to course requirements. An academic career is fueled by ambition and passion, not by mandatory attendance.
Bonus points for attendance have a positive impact on the quality of education, since students will participate actively in classes when they will get a reward.
